WHITTLESEA has locked in the double chance after a tense game against Diamond Creek Women’s 2, while Laurimar finished off its season on a positive note with a win against Thomastown.
The Eagles came into their game at the Whittlesea Showgrounds knowing a win would be enough to lock in third position, with Eltham 2 winning its game against Epping earlier in the day.
A nervous first quarter saw the Eagles record one behind, as did the Demons, leaving scores level at one behind apiece.
Nerves further increase in the second term as Diamond Creek Women’s kicked the first goal of the day. However, the Eagles started to get into the game and dominated territory, leading to two much-needed goals through Shae Ashworth and Trinity Tebbutt to lead 14-7 at the main break.
Harper McPherson-Goulding gave the Eagles breathing space in the third term with the only goal to help the Eagles lead 22-7 as both teams turned for home.
Emma Hancy, Audrey Steinke and Olivia Thomson helped seal the deal for Whittlesea with goals in the last term to eventually seal a 6.5 (41) to 2.2 (14) victory, locking in third position and a date with St Mary’s 2 in the qualifying final.
Ashley Fitzpatrick, McPherson-Goulding, Olivia Hodgson, Tahlia Brander, Steinke and Hancy were all named in the best for Whittlesea.
Laurimar took an 18-point victory over Thomastown at Main Street Reserve to finish the season in eighth position, in a positive finish for the Power.
The Power kicked a goal in the opening quarter to lead 7-0 at the first change and added another through Sarah Campbell in the second to increase the lead to 13 points at the main break, 14-1.
Another goal in the third term meant it was basically game over at the final change, leading 21-1, before easing to a 3.3 (21) to 0.3 (3) victory.
Tara Dyer, Courtney Dark, Campbell, Lize-Carina Jankowitz, Hayley Dyer and Calizta Jankowitz all played their part for the Power.
The finals will see Macleod, St Mary’s 2, Whittlesea, Eltham 2 and Epping take part, with Macleod having the week off thanks to the minor premiership.
St Mary’s 2 and Whittlesea do battle in the qualifying final, while Eltham 2 and Epping play in the elimination final.
