SEYMOUR were surprisingly beaten by Euroa in round 15 of the Goulburn Valley League, but are still very comfortable inside the top three, only losing ground in its gap to fourth by half a game over the weekend.
It was a weekend full of upsets, with Seymour no exception as Euroa dominated most of the afternoon.
It could have been worse in the first quarter, with the Magpies kicking just one goal from seven scoring shots as they led 12-0 at the opening change.
The Magpies got their kicking boots on in the second term, kicking five straight goals, while Seymour managed two goals to trail 15-42 at the main break.
Seymour won the third quarter, but couldn’t make any inroads on the scoreboard, kicking two goals from seven scoring shots, reducing the margin to 24 points at the final change, 32-56.
A high-scoring final term saw Seymour reduce the margin with some late consolation goals to lose 11.9 (75) to 8.10 (58).
Huw Jones continued his incredibly consistent run, while Nicholas Quigg, Dylan Cook, Tom Maloney and Lachlan Giles were also named in the best.
The reserves put in a seven-goal to nil last quarter to end up winning by 112 points, while the under 18s also had a good win, holding Euroa to just one goal for the morning, winning by 47 points.
Seymour’s quest to lock in A-grade netball finals hit a slight snag on the weekend, losing to Euroa 69-47, while B-grade lost in a tight encounter, 42-38. B-reserve took a win, 66-36, while 17-and-under lost 54-47, as did the 15-and-under, 54-16.
