DONNYBROOK residents had reason to celebrate on Saturday morning with the opening of the murnong Community Centre.
The $11.4 million facility was launched with great fanfare by City of Whittlesea Mayor Lawrie Cox and Member for Yan Yean Lauren Kathage among others to help bring in the new facility.
The building will launch new community services for Donnybrook and surrounds, which includes a library, function room for a hiring space and purpose-built kindergarten rooms, among other activations.
There is free Wi-Fi for users, while there is also the opportunity to access maternal and child health services through the two consultation suites at the centre.
The new building has a clear focus on environmental sustainability, with solar panels, double-glazed windows and energy-efficient materials located all over the new facility.
Members from various community groups, including the City of Whittlesea and Donnybrook Dragons Football Netball Club, were in attendance to help bring the new Community Centre to life.
The construction of the murnong Community Centre was supported by grants from the Victorian Government, including $4.5 million from the Building Blocks Capital Grants Program, $2 million from the Growing Suburbs Fund, $709,500 from the Living Libraries Infrastructure Program and $180,000 from the Changing Places Program.
