MITCHELL Rangers are still looking for their first victory of the Victorian Premier League Men’s State League Five North season, but all the signs are there that they might not be far away from achieving the feat with a competitive effort against Moreland Eagles.

The Eagles currently sit in third position on the table, but it was Mitchell Rangers who provided plenty of headaches in the opening half as they did plenty right in the opening half.

Scores remained level at the main break, with both teams still looking to add the game’s first goal.

As the teams reconvened for the second half, Rangers were still looking to get the goal which would put them in front, while continuing to defend all of Moreland’s efforts.

For half an hour, the game remained level, but two goals in four minutes dashed Rangers’ dream of a first win of the season, eventually going down 2-0.

In the Women’s State League Three North, Mitchell Rangers travelled to Keon Park.

With Keon Park sitting in second coming into the game, it always seemed to be a difficult assignment, but Rangers, for a large portion of the game, kept them honest.

Nevertheless, Keon Park scored three goals in the opening half to put the game away by half time.

Two more goals midway through the second half put paid to Rangers’ afternoon, but Romany Faulknor was able to give Rangers a boost with an 89th minute goal.

Mitchell Rangers’ men’s will now have a week off, while the women’s team will host Epping City on Saturday afternoon.
