MITCHELL Rangers’ men’s team lost to FC Birrarung in a game filled with plenty of fireworks in the first half at Broadford Secondary College.
Unfortunately for Rangers, it was composure in the box which ultimately cost them, giving away two penalties in the first half, but it was otherwise a good showing against the fourth-placed FC Birrarung.
The visitors struck first, with Leo O’Brien scoring from a penalty in the 14th minute.
However, it took seven minutes for William Mulvey to hit back, equalising in the 21st minute.
Just as Rangers got back into the game, they immediately went back to square one just one minute later as O’Brien scored a second goal to make it 2-1.
In the 43rd minute, O’Brien completed his hat trick, and the game remained as it was throughout the second half as FC Birrarung won 3-1.
In the women’s competition, Mitchell Rangers ventured to La Trobe University on Sunday but lost 3-1.
Two goals in the 20th and 30th minute to Yvette Mojica-Perez sent La Trobe University on its way, and the lead was extended in the 60th minute through Elise Meyn-McKay.
Romany Faulknor scored an 80th minute goal, but it was a consolation goal as Rangers were bested.
