Critical funding for shire projects

THE Mitchell Shire Council (MSC) is receiving $800,000 worth of support from the State Government to support local projects which is helping to grow the region.

Minister for Development Victoria and Precincts Harriet Shing, Member for Kalkallo Ros Spence and Member for Yan Yean Lauren Kathage announced the two successful projects in the 2024-25 Growing Suburbs Fund, to invest in critical community infrastructure in Mitchell Shire Council.

The $20.6 million Beveridge Central Community Active Open Space project is receiving $676,900 from the Fund to help deliver a new community park with landscaped open spaces, play equipment, shelters and a network of pathways to improve connectivity across Beveridge.

The project will support physical and mental wellbeing, strengthen social connections, and bring the Beveridge community together in a new and engaging way.

The Wallan East (Newbridge) Active Open Space Facility project will receive $150,000 from the Fund for pre-planning works to help create a multipurpose open space that will bring the Wallan East community together.

The State Government has provided Mitchell Shire Council with more than $32 million in funding from the Growing Suburbs Fund—supporting 35 projects over the past 10 years.

Ms Spence said it was ideal to partner with MSC for much-needed funding.

“I am delighted that we are partnering with Mitchell Shire Council to deliver a new park for Beveridge and helping the Council respond to the changing needs of this growing suburb,” she said.

It is a sentiment echoed by Ms Kathage.

“This funding is an important step toward delivering open space for the Wallan East community, which will help them stay active, strengthen social connections and contribute to a more resilient community,” she said.
