MITCHELL Shire Council is inviting the community to help shape its first Road Safety Strategy and Action Plan 2026-2031.
The first stage of consultation is now open and Mitchell Shire Mayor, Cr John Dougall, said the community’s input will play a vital role in planning future road safety improvements across the Shire.
He added that the aim is to better understand local road safety priorities and support the development of a Strategy that works for everyone.
“We want to hear from residents, road users and visitors about their experiences and concerns,” Cr Dougall said.
“Whether you drive, walk, cycle or ride, your feedback will help us plan for a safer, more accessible road network.”
To support this early input, Council hosted two drop-in sessions recently to gain an insight into the community’s priorities.
Council will also host a focus group session with Victoria Police, the Department of Transport and Planning, State Emergency Service, Ambulance Victoria and the Department of Education.
The Road Safety Strategy and Action Plan aims to reduce road crash injuries and work toward zero fatalities by focusing on four key areas, safer roads through improved engineering and infrastructure and safer speeds by shifting attitudes so speeding is seen as unacceptable.
Other hey areas are safer people through shared responsibility among all road users and safer shared paths and footpaths.
The information gathered will help us draft a Strategy and Action Plan that will be released for public consultation later in the year.
