Epping Preschool kids had a blast learning about roads when the Epping Road Upgrade team visited them last month.
Dressed in child-sized safety vests and hard hats, the children enjoyed an engaging talk about how roads connect their community. They also participated in a fun activity where the team helped them design roads linking local places and amenities.
As a special memento, the team provided the preschoolers with booklets containing road-related activities and games.
Once the upgrade is completed, children, their guardians, and staff will enjoy safer and easier travel to the preschool with an additional lane in each direction on Epping Road and improved walking and cycling paths.
The project will also add lanes in each direction between Craigieburn Road East and Memorial Avenue, improve six key intersections, and deliver better connections for pedestrians and cyclists.
The project’s improvements will provide safer and more reliable journeys for the 35,000 drivers who use Epping Road every day, with the project due for completion in 2025.
Member for Thomastown Bronwyn Halfpenny said she was thrilled to see young members of the community learn about local roads.
“I’m delighted that our local preschoolers had fun while learning about building roads, and how road and walking and cycling paths are an important part of connecting communities,” she said.
“The project team’s visit was a highlight as we celebrate an investment that will be used by future generations.
“Once complete, the Epping Road Upgrade will provide better access to local services and improve safety for motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians, including our children.”
Major Road Projects Victoria Program Director Dipal Sorathia said the team enjoyed the educational visit.
“We enjoyed visiting Epping Preschool to teach the children about roadworks in a fun and interesting way,” he said.
