The Bridge Inn Road Upgrade has celebrated the completion of yet another milestone task.

Residents who wish to travel on foot or cycle between Doreen and Mernda can now do so safely and continuously, thanks to the opening of the newly upgraded and constructed shared paths and pedestrian crossing points.

One of the new paths has extended across Doreen’s historic Plenty River Bridge, repurposing the iconic landmark for walking and cycling after building a new four-lane bridge for vehicles.

Member for Yan Yean Lauren Kathage explored the new paths with children from Kiddy Palace Learning Centre in Mernda, who enjoyed searching for wildlife along the track.

“I had a great time with the children, parents, and staff from Kiddy Palace, trying out a section of the new walking and cycling paths built as part of the Bridge Inn Road Upgrade,” she said.

“On the bluestone Plenty River Bridge, which has been repurposed for cyclists and pedestrians, the children were busy trying to spot platypus in the river.

“The new and upgraded paths make walking and riding between homes, schools, and other community facilities so much safer and easier for people of all ages and abilities in our community.”
