Round six in the Gisborne and District Cricket Association (GDCA) men’s cricket fixture was played during one of Victoria’s hottest days this year, with the McIntyre Firsts’ Romsey and Woodend teams going head-to-head.
Romsey won the toss and elected to bat first. Captain Benjamin Way chose Matthew Milne and Taylor Stevenson as opening batters. Milne was dismissed on the last ball of the 17th over after making 10 runs. After Thomas Boyer’s wicket fell to Hamish McDonald’s bowling prowess, Benjamin Way joined Stevenson on the pitch and excellent running partnerships ensued, including Corey Day, Nathan Hoy, Adam Frost, and Matthew Hoyt all assisting Way to make 101 runs before being caught out by Brendan Delaney during the 62nd over. Holt also made big runs during his innings, facing 55 balls and making 29 big runs before he was bowled out by Hayden Ingleton.
Woodend’s innings commenced the same day and Xav Tadd and Harrison Sheahan opened the batting. Romsey chose Louis Moor and Aaron Paterson as opening bowlers. Tadd got the side off to a good start with nine runs including two 4s and at the other end, Sheahan made four runs including one 4. At the end of six overs, the umpire called the game closed with Romsey 10 out for 231 runs and Woodend 0 out for 15 runs.
The match will resume on Saturday, November 23, at 1pm at the Romsey Recreation Reserve.
