Blues continue finals push

By Jackson Russell

Kilmore cruised to an 87-point win over Reservoir on the road on Saturday.

The win puts the Blues two games clear at third on the ladder, behind Panton Hill on percentage.

Kilmore was in control from the start, taking a 10-point lead into quarter time.

The Blues hit another hear in the second term, piling on six goals to two to take a 46-point lead at half-time.

Kilmore carried its momentum through the break and came out for the second half firing, booting another five goals to one to lead by 10 goals at three-quarter time.

Another five goal quarter sealed the win for the Blues.

Kilmore coach Nathan Phillips said it was good to get a bit of percentage but he wasn’t overly happy with the performance.

“We weren’t overly happy with the way we played an executed our game plan so that’s something we can take from it and work on,” he said.

“Reservoir came to play and put a heap of pressure on us and were more willing to run hard early in the game than we were.”

Marcus Webb kicked a bag of eight goals for the Blues, but Phillips said he wasn’t the only stand out.

“Chris Ryall and Jeremy Topham were outstanding in the midfield, especially Jeremy early on when we needed energy and he willed his teammates to come with him,” he said.

Kilmore now have a bit of breathing space at third but it doesn’t mean the pressure’s off the Blues.

“The results went out way this week with Sth Morang and Heid ddropping a game and giving us breathing space,” Phillips said.

“We know if we don’t continue to win, we’re far from certainties to stay in that third spot. That’s where our challenge is, to find the motivation to work hard and keep that spot.”

Kilmore takes on Heidelberg West away next week.
