The 2024 Melbourne Cup has paid a visit to Seymour with the connections of winning horse Knight’s Choice strongly linked to the community.

Knight’s Choice stormed home through a strong field to claim the biggest race in the nation, much to the delight of the Bain and Clydesdale families, locals involved in the ownership of the champion gelding.

Winning trainer John Symons is also a Seymour local who has moved on to achieve incredible things in the racing industry.

Rod Bain, who previously served as a board member of the Seymour Racing Club (SRC), took the cup out to Kobyboyn Road during the week to visit SRC Chief Executive Chris Martin, board member Cooper Lubeck, and Track Manager Brett Thompson.

“The Melbourne Cup is the race that stops the nation, and to see so many locals involved in the ownership of Knight’s Choice is absolutely fantastic,” Mr Martin said.

“The Bain name is well-known right across our local racing industry, and they’ve now got a Melbourne Cup to add to the trophy cabinet.

“It was fantastic to catch up with Rod, who is rightfully absolutely over the moon with the win.

“From everyone at the Seymour Racing Club, I’d like to congratulate trainers John Symons and Sheila Laxon and all the owners on the achievement. It doesn’t get any bigger than this.”

Racing returns following the Seymour Cup

Racing will return to Seymour following last month’s tremendously successful bet365 Seymour Cup, which saw over 2000 patrons enjoy a day of high-quality country racing.

This Friday, November 15, SRC will open the doors again for the United Insurance Group Day with a full schedule of races lined up after the gates open at 11am.

The day promises to provide race goers with a fantastic day of racing in a relaxed atmosphere ahead of some feature races like the Christmas Party Race Day (December 19) and Kids Day Out (December 29) next month.

Mr Martin said the club was excited to welcome back Friday racing.

“Country racing on a Friday is a fantastic way to bring in the weekend in a family friendly environment,” he said.

“The forecast is looking fantastic and the track is in absolutely perfect condition.

“The Seymour Cup was a huge success for our local racing community and we’re eager to keep this momentum going with United Insurance Group Day and some huge meets next month.

“It’s the perfect chance to sneak away from work early and catch up with friends and family.”

Hospitality options are available on the day but are selling fast.

“We’ve still got a couple of spots available in the Bar Landy for patrons looking to enjoy a sit down lunch but tickets are flying out the door,” Mr Martin said.

“As always, general admission tickets can be purchased at the gate with no need to have pre booked.

“We look forward to seeing everyone back on Kobyboyn Road and enjoying everything country racing has to offer.”
