On Saturday, cricket clubs in the Seymour District Cricket Association played in round four, with Seymour A Grade hosting the Puckapunyal Senior Mixed team at Chittick Park.

The one-day match was played under overcast skies and with a southerly wind blowing across the oval.

Puckapunyal won the toss and elected to bowl first, so Seymour’s Captain Braidon Horking selected Jason Brown and Hayden Gawne to bat first, while Puckapunyal Captain Joel Baker chose Madison Albers to bowl with Oscar Stevens at the other end.

Gawne quickly made seven runs from 15 balls before he was caught out by Baker along with Stevens, who was doing his best bowling. The next batter for Seymour was Luke Woolan. Woolan had a stellar running partnership with Brown, until Brown retired on 17 after facing 39 balls. Lachlan Drummond replaced him on the pitch around the 16th over.

Lachlan Drummond faced Puckapunyal’s Vice-Captain Mark Nipperess’ first bowl of the day. Drummond earnt the most runs for his side including three 6s and six 4s, all during a partnership with Woolan. Unfortunately, Drummond was dismissed at 64 runs after being caught out on the very last ball of the 30th over.

Next, Brodey Pointon joined Woolan until he was caught out, and then Horkings was dismissed after being stumped out by Baker at five runs. Woolan was caught out on the first ball of the 40th over and left the pitch at 106 runs off 106 balls, which included slamming six 4s to the boundary line.

Jonty Mann joined Horkings for a brief time, but was unfortunately caught out and dismissed for a duck after facing nine balls. Approaching the end of the batting order was Benjamin MacPherson, Hamza Riaz, Mitchell Thomas, and Hugh Smith who remained on the pitch not out with four runs. Seymour finished their batting innings, nine out for 189 runs for the duration of 45 overs.

It was no field day for Seymour when Pucka walked onto the crease. Pullen was selected to bat first with Doyle Kelly at the other end.

Pullen batted for the entire match and made 132 runs, fourteen 4s, and four 6s, while Kelly made 22 runs until being caught by Riaz who was assisted by Gawne’s bowling.

Pucka’s Baker was unlucky to be bowled out by Lachlan Drummond on seven runs early in the 31st over.

Horkings bowled nine overs, while Pointon bowled around eight, and Smith also contributed to the bowling. At the end of the day, the Pucka team was at its finest and they finished with four out for 190 runs over 33.3 overs.

Next week, Seymour A Grade will travel to Pyalong to play at the Pyalong Recreation Reserve at 12.30pm, while Puckapunyal will host Yea at the Puckapunyal Cricket Ground, also at 12.30pm.

Can the Broadford McIntyre Cup Seconds bring it home?

Broadford resumed with Kyle Hopkins and Samraat Sharma on the pitch at 4 out for 33. Unfortunately, Hopkins was dismissed at eight runs after being bowled out by James Watson, and around four overs later his partner Sharma was caught out by Kyan Bannan.

Hopkin’s replacement, Kane Toohey, made the most runs of the match, and even smacked the ball to the boundary for one 6 and four 4s. Toohey finished his innings on 28 runs before being caught by Kyan Bannan who was assisted with Jayben Bannan’s best bowl.

The match finished in Gisborne’s favour, Broadford 10 out for 89 runs at 48.2 overs.

Kookaburra League

Kilmore played their round four match on Sunday at the Kilmore Cricket Ground against Bacchus Marsh for the first time this season.

Bacchus Marsh won the toss and elected to bat first, so Kilmore sent Taylah Logie into bowl with Jaye Price at the other end, and soon after, Mandy Frost and Chloe D’Elia shared the bowling.

Wickets were hard to come by until the 10th over when Logie, assisted by Frost’s bowling, caught Ashley Gillard out.

The next wicket to fall was Tomeka Fowlie, on the second ball of the 14th over when Logie celebrated another catch assisted by Catherine Mogridge’s best bowl.

Unfortunately, it was the last wicket they took, and Sarah Bamford retired at 52 not out. The Bacchus Marsh innings ended on two out for 204 runs, while the Kilmore innings finished at seven out for 20 runs across 20 overs.
