Broadford Cemetery Trust will once again be holding their annual Blessing of the Graves event, and warmly invite all in the community to attend.
Held on All Soul’s Day, November 2, the Christian celebration seeks to recognise the faithful departed and is a day of community prayer and remembrance.
This year’s proceedings will begin at 11.30am, with the Broadford Cemetery Trust to read the names of those have been interred in the last year, before the community will be invited to light a candle for those they are seeking to honour and remember.
A blessing of the graves by members of the Christian churches will conclude the ritual.
Catholic priest Father Prakash said the event had grown steadily from its beginning in 2020.
“This is our fourth year of our remembering ritual and attendance is growing each year,” he said.
“All are welcome, as it’s a lovely way of remembering our dead here in Broadford or wherever they are.”
Chairman of the Broadford Cemetery Trust Paul Fleming shared Father Prakash’s sentiments, adding that the event provided a meaningful way to honour those passed.
“Reading the names out aloud is a very meaningful way to remember people we have loved and lost as we light a candle for each,” he said.
All community members, regardless of faith or none are welcome to attend, and light refreshments will be provided.
