Mitchell Shire councillors and Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes acknowledged the opening of the Broadford Family and Children’s Centre Expansion late last month.
The project brought significant enhancements to the Broadford community, including another new kindergarten room with capacity for 33 children.
The works involved expanding the centre’s entrance, Maternal Child Health Service area, and increased car parking for appropriate access and entrance points.
Additionally, hallway space was expanded to improve accessibility, and a parents room was added to facilitate support meetings with families.
The third stage of expansion works to the Mt Piper Kindergarten will accommodate Mitchell’s continued growth, as well as the rollout of the State Government’s Best Start Best Life reform, which will provide 15 hours of free kindergarten for all 3-year-olds, and 30 hours for all 4-year-olds by 2036.
Mayor Councillor Louise Bannister said the project was important for the ongoing successful integration of early childhood and family services at the centre.
“These works allow more families to benefit from essential programs like free funded kindergarten programs,” she said.
“Mitchell Shire is growing at a rapid rate and projects like this are key to supporting our growing community. We’re very grateful for the support of the Victorian Government to make these works possible.”
The $2.063 million project was made possible thanks to $1.763 million from the State Government, and $300,000 from Council.
