More females are working in the construction industry than ever before, new data reveals.
Published by BuildSkills Australia, the data shows that of May this year, more than 3000 trade workers were female, which though impressed with the figures, the organisation is hoping to expand upon.
BuildSkills Chief Executive Officer Brett Schimming said a new plan to attract more women into the industry was currently underway, with pilot programs being rolled out in several council areas.
“In the 15 to 24-year-old age group, there are more females working as construction trades workers than ever before,” he said.
“The number of female construction trades workers is just shy of 12,000 (11,980) for 2024, compared with 6100 back in 2019.
“The comprehensive plan … will support Federal Government policy-making, and [identify] skills and training needs across the sectors.
“BuildSkills’ workforce plan will place a priority on ensuring the skills and training of today meet the needs of the future, and attracting more women to the construction industry is a key priority.”
