WENDY Lovell, Member for Northern Victoria, has welcomed recently announced changes to the design of the Yan Yean Road/Bridge Inn Road intersection, saying that the changes are a win for the local community and common sense.

Ms Lovell has campaigned with the community for a sensible solution to the original plans announced by the State Government that did not include access to the Doreen Commercial Precinct from Yan Yean Road.

She said that the original plans left the future of the businesses located in the precinct at risk.

Access to the precinct has been the centre piece of the community’s campaign for changes to the original design.

Ms Lovell said that on April 10, the Government posted changes to the projects design on the Victoria’s Big Build website which indicated a win for the local community and common sense.

“The Government showed no respect for local businesses when they announced the original design for this intersection and had to be dragged kicking and screaming to make these sensible changes,” Ms Lovell said.

The updated design posted on Victoria’s Big Build website includes traffic lights at Activity Way, as well as dedicated left and right turning lanes that will improve access in and out of the business precinct.

A separate left slip lane from Yan Yean Road for direct access to the business precinct and on-street parking in front of the Old General Store and Post Office have also been included.
