The Kilmore Community Centre held its first bingo game last Wednesday, and all the players enjoyed a get-together, a friendly lunch with table service, and lavish prizes.
The Centre is ‘the heart of the community’, and it’s adding bingo to their program of free and paid community services to the public. It costs just 10 cents to play a card, and players can buy as many as they can manage with the entry fee becoming the prize money.
Manager Rose Colombo said the Centre provided a space for members of the community to come together and connect with each other.
“This is our first of many games of bingo, and we have homemade prizes which are the jams and chutneys made by our preserving group. This week we will have brussell sprout or pumpkin soup on the menu, and next week we’ll have pizza,” she said.
The first game starts at 12.30pm, with participants using buttons to play instead of dabber pens. With a volunteer calling out the numbers quickly and clearly, it doesn’t take long before the tension in the room breaks with a shout of ‘Bingo!’
Ms Colombo would like to thank Kemps Bakery who donated a loaf of wholemeal and white bread to the program on the day.
Bingo is played every Wednesday with a break during school holidays, and lunch is provided at just $5 to cover costs.
