The Australian Plants Society (APS) Mitchell Group will host their monthly meeting at the John Taylor Room at the Kilmore Library on Monday, August 19.
Commencing at 7.15pm, the meeting will see Honorary Research Fellow at Federation University, Native Plant Enthusiast, and Australian Plant Society member David Cheal address vegetation of the Mallee.
In his youth, Mr Cheal studied at Monash University, undertaking a Bachelor of Haematology and a Masters in Native Animal Use of Habitat. At Melbourne University, he achieved a Doctor of Philosophy in Fire and Soil Interaction.
Australian Plants Society Mitchell Group Newsletter Editor Jeanine Petts stated that the night was set to be a highly informative evening.
“For years, David was paid to talk about these issues but not permitted to voice his opinions and findings to the public,” she said.
“Now retired following years of working for government authorities, he is more than pleased to share his knowledge and learnings.”
A door prize plant raffle and flower specimen table discussion will follow Mr Cheal’s presentation.
Visitors, guests, and friends are always welcome, and are encouraged to bring along native plant specimens from their gardens for display and discussion. Supper will also be provided.
Entry is $2 and includes supper and a ticket in the door raffle.
