The 2024 Australia Post Community Grants funding round is open for non-profit organisations initiating projects to help people stay connected and mentally well.
Australia Post’s office personnel are at the centre of more than 4,000 communities and facilitate millions of connections each year.
Nicky Tracey, the General Manager of Community and Stakeholder Engagements said given the rise of mental health diagnoses, there has never been a better time for Australians to realise that ‘as when we connect, we feel better.’
“Australia Post has a strong connection with their local communities and the projects we are supporting help mental health and wellbeing. The 2024 community grant program empowers organisers to continue their work and make a positive difference in the lives of all Australians,” she said.
Last year, funding enabled the Family Life Op Shop to run three Mental Health and Essentials training sessions for 45 of its volunteers.
CEO of Family Life Allison Wainwright said the company realised their volunteers often felt ill-equipped to interact safely and appropriately with customers and community members experiencing mental health issues.
“It’s about uplifting our volunteers’ understanding and language around mental health. Educating and providing them with the tools to support themselves and their communities and, where needed, connecting people with the right services,” she said.
Amounts of up to $10,000 will be allocated to successful applicants. Applications close at midnight, on Monday, July 1, 2024.
