Kilmore took home a disappointing loss at the weekend, giving Lalor a 3-point victory.
It had been 1086 days since Lalor’s senior men’s team last won a match, but for Kilmore the outcome was not good enough.
Coach Paul Derrick said for four quarters the Blues could not really fire a shot.
“We got pressured a lot and played into their hands by just reverting back to old habits of kicking the footy down the line and not listening to instructions,” he said.
“We paid the price at the end.
“I can’t apologise enough to our supporters and the Kilmore community for putting up an effort that’s not Kilmore like, and it’s something we will address and hopefully bounce back from.”
Despite the 59-56 loss, the winners for Kilmore on the day were Jake Beattie and Ryan Bailey.
“Jake Beattie and Ryan Bailey had the two wings, and they were clearly our best two players,” Derrick said.
“After that we struggled for a third really, but they did the job and did exactly what was asked of them, and then after that we sort of fell away, Mick Marrett battled hard in the middle all day.
“After that there weren’t a lot of winners on the ground for us.”
Kilmore will play home again this weekend against Old Paradians.
Derrick said the team needed to get back to its football regardless of the opposition.
“We have to get back to our football really for next week and have to play our style no matter what the opposition … and not be dedicated so that’ll be our focus this week,” he said.
