It was game over early for Broadford A Grade cricketers as they wrapped up the match mid afternoon in Seymour District Cricket Association action on Saturday.
Playing at Broadford’s Harley Hammond Reserve, Yea Tigers won the toss and elected to bat, but only managed 9/84 after 28.3 overs after Rhys Harding was forced to retire hurt.
Yea’s Austin Ross top scored with 27 not out, as he and Biron Hardinge, 11, were the only two Tigers batsmen to make double figures.
The wickets were shared among Broadford’s bowlers, James Jones taking 3/9, Mitch Collier 2/14, and Gareth Sharp 2/17.
Broadford replied with 6/85 with Sharp top scoring with an unbeaten 22.
Tigers opening bowler Andrew Chisholm took 5/24 in a highlight for the visitors.
In the other A Grade match, Tallarook scored a convincing win over Seymour.
Playing at home, Tallarook won the toss and batted, making 6/158 after 45 overs.
Leigh Irving was the star of the show with an unbeaten 67, supported by 20 each from Shane Topham and Ben Tarran.
In reply Seymour were bolwed out for 139, as veteran Jason Brown made 55.
Topham with 3/36 and Lachie Watts 3/37 were the best of the bowlers, as Irving and Tarran also took two wickets each.
In the last round before a Christmas break, Broadford host Seymour and Eastern Hill play Yea Tigers on Saturday.
Gisborne District
Round eight results for Gisborne District Cricket Assocation’s McIntyre Cup featured a strong win by Romsey over Diggers Rest.
After Romsey made 287 on day one, Diggers Rest could manage only 157 in reply.
Romsey’s wicket-takers were Jamie Taylor 3/11 from 14 overs including eight maidens, Aaron Paterson 2/32 and Taylor Stevenson 2/39.
Romsey also made 1/101 in its second innings, with Nathan Hoy top scoring with 58, and Corey Day 37 not out.
The win puts Romsey in third place on the ladder but on equal points with ladder leader Sunbury United and second-placed Gisborne.
Meanwhile Wallan could not manage to string enough runs together against Gisborne, all out for 115.
Chasing Gisborne’s 273, Wallan were all out after 62 overs, with first drop batsman Bryan Vance top scoring with 43.
In other McIntyre Cup matches, East Sunbury 162 lost to Sunbury Kangaroos 226; Bacchus Marsh 8/296, featuring an unbeaten 126 by James Lidgett, defeated def Woodend 234; and Sunbury United 239 defeated Rupertswood 154.
Meanwhile in the Johnstone Shield, Kilmore scored an outright win over Gisborne.
After making 4/322 the week before, Kilmore were able to dismiss Gisborne for 106 runs in the first innings and then send the visitors in again, where they were bundled out for 83 on Saturday.
The only real shining light for Gisborne was an unbeaten 57 by Josh Handley in the first innings.
For Kilmore, wickets in the first innings were shared between Josh Buttler 3/27, Josh Squire 2/7, Ash Lovick 2/16 and Brett Buttler 2/16.
In the second innings, a highlight was a bag of wickets by Tristan Lilburn, who took 5/17 off just four overs.
