The City of Whittlesea celebrated International Day of People with Disability by launching its new Disability Network Hub to improve better service.
Whittlesea Disability Network Hub, WDN, is an online space where people with disability, their carers and support network including services providers can provide feedback to council on what they need to live independently and safely.
The hub is open for community members to make comments on access to spaces, disability services and supports needs, council services and programs, and issues people like to learn more about.
Council chair administrator Lydia Wilson said the hub aimed to improve council’s understanding of what needed to be achieved for people with disabilities living in the community.
“Ensuring we have two-way communication with people with disability and their community is a crucial aspect of our Whittlesea 2040 vision – to create a place for all,” she said.
“Providing this online space will help us better understand the needs of this group of people in our community and allow them to have their say.”
Ms Wilson said council would continue to develop the platform and space with feedback provided by people with disability and their networks.
“This is one of many steps we will be taking to support positive conversations and work together to make our community a more accessible place for people with disability,” she said.
