DONNYBROOK Road has guaranteed investment ahead of this month’s State Election, with the State Government committing to delivering stage three of the upgrade, which would comprise new intersections at Dwyer Street and English Street, as well as a new bridge over Merri Creek.
The announcement was made as part of the State Government’s pledge to upgrade 50 local roads.
Wollert would also be big winners under a re-elected State Government, with Craigieburn Road East to be upgraded between Jardin Road and Edgars Road, with new intersections and also a fix for a turning issue at the service station.
The City of Whittlesea Council welcomed the news, with Mayor Councillor Lawrie Cox saying it matches Council’s advocacy on the matter.
“Donnybrook Road and Craigieburn Road East are critical transport corridors that support thousands of residents travelling throughout our municipality every day,” he said.
“These projects are longstanding advocacy priorities for Council, and we welcome commitments that recognise the need for infrastructure to keep pace with the growth occurring across our community.
“The proposed upgrades would help improve traffic flow, increase road capacity and create a safer and more efficient transport network for current and future residents. However, more investment is needed to ensure these upgrades are delivered in full.”
