KILMORE’s Parkrun track was a sea of red on Saturday morning as members of the Kilmore Junior Football Club and the senior football club all gathered in support of young player Harvey Pike.

Harvey has been living with haemophilia after being diagnosed two years ago. It is a rare blood disorder where blood doesn’t clot in the same way most people’s generally does.

While a Blood Disorder Walk was held at Albert Park on Saturday morning, event organiser, and Harvey’s mother, Kristy Pike, decided to do something in Kilmore to raise awareness and fundraising for the Haemophilia Foundation Australia.

On a GoFundMe page, which has raised $4821 out of $6000 as of Monday morning, Kristy gave an insight into Harvey’s condition.

“For Harvey, a big knock or injury can mean a trip to the Royal Children’s Hospital, particularly when a bleed affects his joints. He may need factor VIII treatment to help his blood clot and control the bleeding,” she wrote.

“The official Blood Disorders Walk is being held at Albert Park on the same day, but i thought it would be great to do something here in Kilmore to help raise awareness and funds for the foundation as the government has cut all funding this year and get behind a cause that means a lot to our family.”

Around 80 people, many of who play or participate for Kilmore Football Netball Club, all attended the walk, showcasing strong community support.
