THE Mernda Community Hospital will be expanded if the State Government is re-elected, with opening hours increasing.

It is a $44.7 million investment, which would allow the hospital to get 45 more doctors, nurses and health professionals working at the hospital, double the available number of beds, opening hours increasing seven days a week from 8am to 8pm, and an additional 15,000 patients able to get care closer to home.

Premier Ben Carroll said it is an important contribution to Mernda.

“This investment means that around 15,000 more patients every year will be able to receive the healthcare they need at Mernda Community Hospital,” he said.

“With more doctors, nurses and healthcare professionals at the hospital, as well as more beds, Labor is supporting local families by delivering the services they need.”

State Member for Yan Yean Lauren Kathage said expansion would help the community.

“Labor delivered the Mernda Community Hospital, and is now expanding its hours to meet the needs of our growing community,” she said.

“Only Labor will invest in our Mernda hospital, so Urgent Care can open seven days a week and deliver specialist health services to local families.”

Labor Candidate for Mill Park Elizabeth Nealy added that local families would benefit.

“Labor is investing in the future of the Mernda Community Hospital so local families have better access to healthcare, when they need it, closer to home,” she said.

“This investment will ensure Mernda Community Hospital can do more for local families, with more beds, more healthcare workers and longer opening hours, seven days a week.”
