WALLAN is set for a huge election period as Member for Kalkallo Ros Spence announced multiple potential upgrades across sport and recreation facilities.

Firstly, Birralee Gymnastics in Wallan is looking at a $2.5 million dollar centre which will be separate to their current setup at RB Robson Stadium, while another $2.5 million will be left with the planning stages of Greenhill reserves future.

It will allow for the group to separate from the current facility, which it currently shares with the Wallan Panthers Basketball team allowing the business to run smoothly as it’s one of the only gymnastics centres in the area.

Wallan Bowls club are looking at a replacement of grass after the government and council sought agreement to swap the natural green to synthetic.

Lockerbie North in Beveridge is set to have a netball court expansion which will be a great step for sport in the area.

“That will be helpful for people particularly around the Beveridge area,” Ms Spence said.

With these announcements, commitments also came which included $1.3 million for the existing Greenhill Reserve to upgrade the pavilion and netball courts.

Ms Spence announced the commitment saying that the government has already done so much work for the reserve but admitted that there can always be more.

“We’ve done the change rooms, drainage, cricket nets, playground, there’s always more that can be done so this is another step in keeping up the journey of works there,”

There’s good news for dog lovers who will also on the lookout after the election as $480,000 has been committed for Beveridge and Wallan to receive dog parks if Labor is elected.

“We know how much people love their four-legged friends, and having them become socialised in those environments is really good for everyone.” Ms Spence said.

Mitchell Shire Cr Riley Evans was wrapped with the announcements.

“Christmas came for me, a lot of those honours were fantastic, especially the footy club and the community facilities around here.”
