Positive outing for top bowlers

ROUND TWO of the Highland Bowls region Saturday pennant fixtures delivered beautiful conditions across the competition and it led to some favourable results for the locals.

In division 1, Broadford, Romsey and Lancefield secured comfortable wins but it was the Kilmore v Kyneton Golf matchup that was certainly the match of the round.

With experienced recruit Ray Jansen busy representing Victoria at the Australian Senior Sides Championships in Western Australia, the Blues relied heavily on their depth to eke out a 53-51 win.

A 24-10 victory from the Sebastian Pretty-led Team 3 was the standout, with Team 2 taking a 19-14 as well while Team 1 were dealt with handily, 10-27.

Down the road in Broadford, Adam Fisher, Mark Carboon and Luke Gleeson led the way as the home side swept all three rinks, winning 75-46 over Trentham.

In Romsey, the grand final rematch between the Redbacks and Kyneton wasn’t quite the spectacle it was back in March.

The home side, like Broadford, swept the rinks in impressive fashion and now sit alongside Gisborne and Kilmore as the remaining undefeated teams.

Lancefield got their season back on track by knocking off Woodend 64-46.

An impressive showing from the quartet of Trevor Young, Peter Shannon, John Parks and Aaron Andrews (23-11 win) did the job for the travelling Tigers.

In division 2, results went the way of Romsey and Kilmore who won by 44 and 71 shots respectively.

Kilmore and Broadford also secured wins in division 3. Lancefield got over the top of Romsey in a tight one, 60-52.

Tuesday pennant is also underway now, with a mixture of round 1 and round 2 matches played during the week. Kilmore 1 knocked off Romsey 1 68-63 in division 1, while Lancefield 1 were too good for Broadford 1.

The top Lancefield and Broadford teams would both go on to lose their Thursday fixtures against Romsey 2 and Gisborne 2 respectively.
