DESPITE Victoria’s big wet on Thursday and Friday, many greens cleared up just in time for the Highland Bowls region competition to get underway on Saturday.

In division 1, Broadford and Kilmore, those old rivals, took on one another at Broadford Bowls Club to open the season, but it was the crew in blue who dominated, taking the win 83-45.

Kilmore swept all three rinks, with Raymond Jansen winning 24-14 over Adam Fisher, Lance Whitnall claiming a 26-14 win over Luke Gleeson and Sebastian Pretty taking a 33-17 win over Mark Carboon.

Romsey also took a clean sweep, defeating Trentham 72-43.

Aaron Young took a 26-14 win over Phillip Hanson, while Damien Ely won 27-11 over Corey McKeone. Cameron Austin completed the sweep with a 19-18 win over Robert Dobinson.

Lancefield will have to wait to get its season underway, with a wet green stopping its game against Kyneton Golf.

Kilmore 2 and Romsey 2 met in division 2 at Kilmore Bowls Club, with Kilmore starting its season on the right note with a 63-59 win.

Romsey claimed rink 1, with John Beaumont defeating Matthew Burnham 19-15, but it was all Kilmore on the other two rinks, with Barry Lingham defeating David Culpan 25-20 and Daniel Noonan defeating John Reimann 23-20.

Kilmore 3 was unable to take the green, with its game against Gisborne washed out.

Romsey 3, however, did play against Mt Cottrell, and dominated to complete a clean sweep.

Mick Gilligan dominated against Geoff Allsop, 34-13, while Roger Kozulins defeated Ronald Perry, 23-20. Graeme Cuthbert completed the day with a 22-16 win over Judith Vearing.

Broadford 2 also took full points, defeating Lancefield 2 71-42.

Laurie Barnes defeated Steven Climas 23-18, while Barbara Goddard took a dominant 29-11 win over Gardon Charles. Peter Hoskins completed a perfect day with a 19-13 win over Peter Shannon.

The Tuesday pennant gets underway this morning, with Romsey taking on Kilmore in division 1 and division 2, Broadford hosting Lancefield in division 2, and Kilmore hosting Woodend in division 3.
