A REPRESENTATIVE from VicTrack praised the work of Broadford locals last Tuesday for creating a welcoming and sustainable environment at the Broadford Station.
Roger Agius, the Community Partnerships Lead at VicTrack, conducted a safety induction with members of the Broadford Station Volunteers Group who have recently been formally recognised as part of the statewide Station Volunteer Program.
The program’s purpose is to enhance the station environment through gardening and beautification activities, fostering community pride and contributing to a welcoming public space.
The volunteers group is a subcommittee of the Broadford Residents Action Group (BRAG) and includes representatives from across the Broadford community.
Members of the local men’s shed, historical society, probus club and the Sunday Creek Dry Creek Landcare Group make up the group alongside other passionate residents.
Chairman of BRAG Brian O’Dwyer said the group was still disappointed by the recent theft of the model train plaques that were stolen from the newly implemented garden boxes, but was glad that VicTrack was impressed with their work.
The volunteers received a $200 Bunnings voucher from VicTrack to help with the purchase of tools and plants for the various projects.
The next project for the volunteers is to reinstate the Train Stopper as close as possible to the original.
Broadford is one of 47 active railway station volunteers groups operating across metropolitan and regional Victoria. As part of the state’s regional network, Broadford is among the 26 volunteer groups supported and overseen by V/Line.
