Both teams went on to kick two goals each from that point onwards in the first, leaving the scoreboard at 10 points the margin at 31-21.

In the second, the Giants’ quarter time talk looked to have worked early, as they kicked the first, but the response from the Magpies was too strong, as they went on to kick seven unanswered goals, including another three in a row for Smart.

The gettable margin escaped the Giants within just 20 minutes of the quarter, providing a clear example of dominance from the league leaders.

In the third, Chris Stewart, coming off eight goals last week, opened his tally and Blaide Dickson added his second major for the day.

The 13-goal quarter put the scores at 125-61, leaving a little bit too much for Gisborne to catch.

The youthful Giants defence was again stretched by the Magpies in the last, and Smart had his 10th goal for the day, putting him second in the league goalkicking, four goals behind Callum Moore.

Captain Bradley Mangan and young gun Jack Clough closed out the quarter with some majors for the Giants, closing the margin to 65 points for the day, leaving Wallan with a 148-83 victory.

Smart was named best on while Steven Boyall, Shaun Stewart, Sean Morris, Nash King and Dion Hill were all named in the best players.

The Wallan reserves also got the job done with a 37-point win over the Giants, keeping them first on the ladder, but it was the opposite in the under 19.5’s where the Giants dominated the Magpies in a top of the table clash to win by 55 points, showing a glimpse of the future for Gisborne.

The A-grade netball saw a draw in dramatic fashion, which was also a top of the table clash, leaving Wallan on top of the ladder and dropping Gisborne to third.

Over in Lancefield, it was a predictable result for the reigning premiers, with Riddell running away with a 91-point win.

Riddell was looking for a turn around in events from last weeks 60-point loss to Wallan.

Opening the game with nine scoring shots to one, the Bombers were far too dominant already for Lancefield.

Inaccurate kicking kept the Tigers in it up to quarter time, with an 18 point deficit being the pacemaker for the Tigers.

The second saw an equal amount of dominance from the Bombers though, kicking another four goals to one to take the margin to 36 points at the half.

The half time pep talk from Riddell player-coach Matthew Darby must have sparked something for the Bombers in the third, as they went on to explode, kicking 9.4 for the quarter and leaving the Tigers with just one point.

Changing the magnets for finals preparation, the Bombers number one ruckman Mark Kovacevic was sent to the goal square to have some fun against the young Tigers defence.

The final term saw a glimmer of hope for the Tigers, equalling Riddell’s three goals, but it was another huge loss for a struggling club, leaving them two games clear at the bottom of the ladder.

Luca McTrusty did all he could for the Tigers having 21 disposals and a goal, while Lucas Jones also played well, kicking three goals.

Riddell’s Bryce and Callum Williamson brought out there inner Daicos brother impersonations, with numbers of 69 disposals, 16 marks and goal between them.

Kovacevic finished with six goals, and although getting tagged by Jack Dalgleish all day, Nathan Hrovat finished with 28 disposals and a goal to his name, proving that the tag didn’t stop his impact.
