GOLFER OF THE WEEK
Tom Richards (11 h/c) of Broadford takes our Golfer of the Week award. The 13-year-old won Broadford’s winter classic by 15 stableford points accross three rounds. His game has grown to new levels of consistency as he fights to get his handicap into the single figures. Credit to his mother, who got his new clubs, which has seemed to have taken his golf to a whole new level as well!

WINNER: 13-year-old Tom Richards wins the Broadford Winter Classic.
HOLE IN ONE
Lancefield president Chris Enright had a fantastic day in the fog on Thursday where he had his first hole-in-one. Due to the lack of visibility, the group couldn’t quite see the ball the whole way off the tee, so after minutes of searching, one of them thought to check the hole, which solved the case. A hole in one! Very well done Chris.

BEERS ON HIM: Lancefield Golf Club President Chris Enright with his first ever hole in one.
COVERING THE FAIRWAYS
BROADFORD’S winter classic was the ultimate success following a great Saturday where they celebrated their David Henderson Memorial Day. Our golfer of the week won the Winter Classic by 15 Stableford points in front of Amanda Rees and Anthony Scultz. Alex Markovic (15 h/c) had a great day on Saturday in their mixed stroke competition scoring a nett -2
HIDDEN VALLEY held the first round of their Winter Cup and 38 points from Evan Mills (10 h/c) was the score to beat. Mills had an Eventful front nine with two birdies and two doubles as well as a rocky start with a triple bogey on the first. His three over on the back nine is what brought him back in it, as he takes the lead by three points after the first round. The Valley held their Monthly Medal on Satuday where John Barro (30) took home the medal with a nett 63 in the stroke competition. He was 6 shots better then second place who had a nett 69
KILMORE’S Stephen Maurer (13 h/c) was the leader after Wednesday’s comp, having a 33 point day. Sandra Wicking (14 h/c) took the ladies comp in a count back win on 32 points. Michael Roberts (18 h/c) took out the Saturday comp with a fine 36 points. It was his four over back nine which cemented the victory. Unfortunately Kilmore experienced some unfortunate behaviour from people within the community over the weekend, who decided the 18th green was the right place for a burnout in their car.
LANCEFIELD holds the highest Wednesday score of the week, thanks to James Whitford’s (10 h/c) 38 pointer. His consistent golf saw no score higher then a bogey which is a fantastic result on a tough course like Lancefield. Well done to Chris Enright for his first hole-in-one on Thursday. Samuel Colson (36 h/c) took the Saturday comp out with a 39 pointer. But it was all about the Winter 1000 which was won by Rod Taylor, Wayne Kupke, John Rachcoff and Phillip Dally with 119 total stableford points.
ROMSEY held a smaller comp on Wednesday with only six registered players. They had to hold off on their Saturday comp on the 20th due to the rain, trying to take a proactive approach to save the course from getting destroyed. But last Saturday, Mitch Atlas (10 h/c) was good enough to shoot his handicap thanks to his nine pars and one birdie. He took the comp in front of Dean Kohler (6 h/c) who finished two shots behind but recorded three birdies in his +9 round.
Some bigger and better scores this week, as the golfers start to get used to the wintery cold conditions. If i would suggest a piece of golf clothing to buy for winter, it would be a light waterproof rain jacket, with inner fleece to keep the body warm. From personal experience, it’s worth every penny.
Why do some golfers carry a spare pair of socks? In case they get a hole in one…
