THANK GOD FOR…

Yes! Its thank God for so many people vital to our lives – surgeons, doctors, paramedics, first responders, fire fighters, the police and so on. Then there are the nurses. Across Australia they are found in cities and the regions, of many nationalities.

Karina and Eva.

The local Kilmore Hospital is well served with fine, caring nurses. Then there are the district nurses who do vital work in the community exemplified by a quartet based in Broadford. They work under the banner of Omnia Community Health. Many I have spoken to are really grateful for the care and service provided by Eva, from Beveridge, Karina (Wandong), Kylie (Broadford) and Sarah (Kilmore). Currently with them is a young student nurse Chivia from Craigieburn, she could not ask for better teachers. Pictured are two of the nurses Karina and Eva. Eva is very experienced and she has high praise for her colleagues. All four have busy family lives coinciding with their professional lives. Looking after young pre and school age children supporting their partners and when time permits enjoying sports, football, netball, cricket. Collingwood and Carlton are favourite clubs. Kylie follows BBL club Melbourne Stars. Eva speaks for all four saying “We love meeting people and doing our best to give them the treatment needed”. All four young ladies are impressive and deserving of high praise.

YOUNGSTERS GALORE

Friendly folk, residents in Piper Street, Kilmore, certainly love children and care for them really well. Aimee and Pat are the parents and in the photo with them (from left) are Letayah, Mykayla, Hailee, Jordyn, Brock, PJ and Indy.

Letayah is a lovely little foster child who really is happy to be part of the immediate and extended family. Dad Pat DiGeorgio is a talented tradesman, specialising in motor trimming. Aimee, who graduated from Broadford College, has previously worked in childcare and this really prepared her for the task of looking after her own young children. Aimee and Pat are hardworking folk, and they take pride in what they do. Their only point of difference is that one barracks for Collingwood, the other for Essendon.

VARIA

Assumption 1st XVIII lost by a solitary point to Ivanhoe in a clash the Blues should have won. After a home game versus Yarra Valley comes the mid-year break with what looks likely to be a clash with leaders Marcellin in late July. The encounter should decide if Assumption plays finals.

Peter Ryan’s farewell was a fitting one. The beautiful St Kevin’s church in Templestowe was packed to overflow for the Requiem Mass. Family, lifetime and cricketing friends plus many ACK students of Peter and his brother Shane’s year at ACK formed a guard of honour outside the church. Wife Cathy, daughters Virginia and Naomi and grandchildren spoke lovingly of Peter. Later at a packed function room at Heidelberg Golf Club cricket and golfing friends paid tribute.

Peter was truly a brilliant young cricketer with a Test career ahead of him until he was cut down by the head injury. He had a better technique and all-round range of strokes than most of today’s Aussie bats.

Ron Pickett grew up in Wandong and attended ACK as a youngster. A proud and loyal Old Collegian, he now resides in Glen Waverly with his wife Barbara. Ron has produced around twenty little books about footy, cricket, and life in general; often paying tribute to the Wandong people and little township of his early times. His latest publication is a poetry anthology, most of the poems written by himself. In one he pays tribute to the Bulldogs 2016 Grand Final win.

THE BULLDOGS

It’s happened! They’re triumphed! The sons of the west,

They played in the Granny and gave it their best,

Sixty-two years since they hoisted the cup

When a Bulldog supporter was only a pup.

So well done to Liam and Easton and JJ,

To Jordan, the Bont and to Jackie Macrae;

To Big Tom and Little Tom and Caleb and Luke,

A twenty-two point win proves it’s no fluke.

While Teddy and Charlie watched on from a cloud,

The red, white and blue boys did everyone proud.

Bevo’s boys played a game full of vigour and zest,

An astonishing win by the boys from the west!
