DESPITE an early lead, Whittlesea Rangers proved they were too much for the Mitchell Rangers in round 12 of the State League 4 Women’s north-west competition.

On the women’s side they shot off to the perfect start, capitalising in the 10th minute with a goal from Sarah Warren, but thereafter this jolted the Whittlesea Rangers to score three unanswered goals heading into half time with the scores 3-1.

The Rangers didn’t stop there, scoring a fourth goal within nine minutes of the resumption, while also completing Lily Sterjovski’s hat-trick. The Mitchell Rangers did manage to score one more through Romany Faulknor in the 72nd minute, but the damage was already dealt, with the Whittlesea Rangers too dominant for them with the final scores 5-2.

The men’s Rangers got off to an ideal start, scoring the opening goal of the match against Old Trinity Grammarians at Trinity Sports Ground through William Mulvey in the 23rd minute. Although they got the first goal the Rangers weren’t able to keep up as Old Trinity Grammarians established they were a class above them.

An immediate equaliser came through just three minutes afterwards by an own goal, also scored by Mulvey, then later by a penalty from Edmond Ansbro in the 41st minute leaving the scores 2-1 at half time.

Old Trinity Grammarians came out scoring two goals in the 67th minute and also another own goal in the 78th minute to guarantee that the Grammarians pulled away with the win.
