SOME of the most exceptional individuals and groups have been honoured with awards at the Macedon Ranges Celebrating Community event held last Friday.
Award winners were chosen to represent the breadth of contribution across the shire, highlighting the vital role passionate locals play in building communities.
Kathleen Wyatt was recognised as the Macedon Ranges’ Citizen of the Year for her work as the manager of the Kyneton Op Shop, while several people working in the disability advocacy and inclusion spaces took home the major awards.
Tate Kemp, founder of All Abilities Public Speaking, and Matilda Matthews, an outstanding supporter of those in the community who don’t have a voice, shared the Young Citizen of the Year award.
Macedon Ranges Mayor Councillor Kate Kendall said the award recipients exemplify the spirit of the community that defines the Macedon Ranges.
“These award winners are making a real difference – often quietly, and without expectation of their recognition. Their contributions strengthen our communities, support others, and help make the Macedon Ranges such a special place to live,” she said.
Awards were handed out across eight categories with a total of 35 nominations received. The awards night coincided with National Volunteer Week celebrations.
