And they’re racing… at Echuca

IT was the turn of small trainers to enjoy success at the Echuca meeting on Saturday.

Seymour’s Barry Malanczyn scored in the Murphy’s Turf and Landscaping 0-56 handicap over 2100 metres with 9-year-old gelding Second Nature.

In the last race on the card, Lesia Masnyj scored with Mothereens in the 0-56 1400-metre event.

It was the mare’s third start since a break from November 2024 until mid August due to the need for surgery, Masnyj leased the mare to Kilmore trainer Tony Carter-Smith for some of that time.

The mare had raced at Wodonga on Tuesday where she had reportedly been a handful so Masnyj decided to give her a short backup and race again on Saturday.

Masnyj bred Mothereens and has enjoyed city success with her, having won her maiden race at Sandown.

Peter Smith made the trip across the border on Saturday to start the five year old gelding So You Think Too Big at the Wagga Riverside Meeting.

The gelding won his race, a heat of the Wagga Stayers Series, over 1800 metres.

The run capped off a good run of form following a third placing at Seymour on August 31 and a second placing at Corowa on September 15.
