THE Wallan Probus Club, for business and professional retirees, held its inaugural Annual General Meeting last week and later celebrated with cake and a Father’s Day raffle.
Before moving into the social part of the meeting, the club’s office bearers gave a recap of their activities so far, which included dancing, theatre outings, shopping, and even mystery trips.
Guest speakers are a feature at Probus, and the club designates a member to facilitate a willing volunteer keen to share a topic of interest.
To date informative and inspirational speakers include Michael Kenneth Pratt, a George Cross recipient and a former constable of the Melbourne Victoria Police Force and a member of the Kilmore Community Garden, Rod Noonan.
Joy Marshall is looking forward to another year as President of the tight knit community.
“We are looking to grow our memberships,” she said.
“One thing we all have in common is that we are retired business and professional people and that we are looking to make friends.
“It is unheard of to have 21 members at the start, and now we have 48.
“We are a strong committee, considering some of us didn’t know each other when we started.”
The Father’s Day raffle featured a collection of prizes donated by members and local businesses and the winners included Cathryn Boyle, and Steve Heffernan won second and third prizes.
Later this week, members can look forward to a free sausage sizzle to be held at the Adventure Playground and Splash Park on Wednesday, September 19 and since its school holidays, members with grandchildren are welcome to bring them along.
Treasurer Rob Symes said everything is provided except for drinks and he suggests people bring along their own fold up chair.
On the horizon is an exciting mystery tour with all expenses, excluding lunch, paid for. The activities coordinators are looking forward to announcing the destination for Thursday, September 25 and grandchildren are welcome.
Their next meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 8, at 10.30 am and new members are welcome.
