THE Whittlesea Showgrounds came alive with dust, lights and roaring applause as the Whittlesea Pro Rodeo 2026 delivered one of its most successful events to date.

Sanctioned by the Australian Professional Rodeo Association, the event drew strong crowds for a thrilling program of top-tier competition and family entertainment.

This year’s rodeo featured a full slate of events including Open Bareback, Open Saddle Bronc, Open Bull Ride and the ever-popular Open Ladies Barrel Race. Emerging competitors also had their moment in the spotlight in the Second Division contests for Bareback, Saddle Bronc and Bull Ride, while the Junior Barrel Race showcased the next generation of talented young riders.

Bull riding once again proved the headline attraction, with riders testing their nerve in eight-second battles against powerful stock that had the crowd on its feet. The Open Saddle Bronc and Bareback competitions demonstrated the athleticism and grit that define professional rodeo, while barrel racing competitors impressed with lightning-fast turns and precise horsemanship around the cloverleaf pattern.

Beyond the arena action, the evening delivered a vibrant country atmosphere. Popular country music artist Jade Gibson kept the energy high with a live performance that had spectators singing along between events. Sideshow entertainment and dedicated children’s activities ensured younger attendees were equally entertained, adding to the family-friendly appeal of the night.

Food vendors and merchandise stalls lined the showgrounds, creating a festive carnival environment. Community groups were also actively involved, reinforcing the rodeo’s role as both a major social occasion and an important fundraising opportunity for local organisations.

Event organisers praised the strong attendance and smooth running of the evening, crediting months of preparation and the dedication of volunteers, sponsors and local businesses.

“The support from the Whittlesea community has been incredible. This event continues to grow each year, and 2026 has been our biggest and most exciting rodeo yet,” an association spokesperson said.

With local accommodation providers and businesses reporting a welcome boost from visiting spectators and competitors, the Whittlesea Pro Rodeo once again proved itself a highlight on the regional calendar. Planning is already under way for 2027, with organisers confident the event will continue to grow as one of Victoria’s premier country sporting spectacles.
