THE Federal Government has celebrated a solar milestone, with 261 solar batteries installed in McEwen forming part of the 50,000 batteries that have now been installed in homes, businesses and community groups across Australia as part of the Cheaper Home Batteries program.
It comes at a time where the Mitchell Shire Council had also contributed and recently celebrated the installation of rooftop solar panels at community facilities in June, which included three locations in Wallan, the Wandong Memorial Stadium and four locations in Broadford, adding to the growing commitment to solar power.
“Australians know that batteries mean cheaper, cleaner, more reliable energy. In just over two months since July 1, 50,000 batteries have been installed. That is thousands of households, small businesses and community groups taking control of their energy and bills,” Member for McEwen, Rob Mitchell said.
“This program is working in the suburbs, in the regions and in our cities. Australians are proving the naysayers and climate change deniers wrong and they want to be part of the clean energy future.”
The $2.6 billion Cheaper Home Batteries program supports households, businesses and communities with an average 30% discount on batteries to store their solar power and use it when its needed most, cutting peak bills and easing pressure on the grid.
With 261 households taking up the offer of a cheaper home battery, communities across McEwen are currently in the top 10 of electorates in Victoria doing their part to enact real action on climate change and ensure the benefits of renewable energy flows to them and their communities.
