LAST MONTH, past and present Mitchell Bicycle Users Group (MBUG) members enjoyed getting together to celebrate 20 years of riding and friendship.
Over lunch members reminisced and recalled eventful wet weather days and cycling parts of New Zealand and the busy roads of Vietnam.
The group’s formation was the result of the friendship formed between keen cyclist John Pyle and Greg Jones who met while volunteering for the Wallan Junior Basketball Association.
Since the group was formed in 2005, they ride twice a week and also advocate alongside the Wallan Rail Trail and Wallan Environment Groups for better cycling and walking infrastructure in Mitchell Shire.
Inaugural President, Mr Jones designed the group’s original orange jersey and recently he designed another, in blue and yellow to mark the milestone.
Mr Pyle has been a very resolute secretary for 20 years – writing weekly online newsletters and acting as coordinator and planner of MBUGs rides. In his spare time, he has ridden thousands of kilometres and functioned as Chief WARBY (We Are Right Behind You) for the Great Victorian Bike Ride.
MBUG gives thanks to all those who have volunteered their help over the 20 years and welcomes new members. For more information, visit www.mbug.org.au
