Campers can prepare for another full three-day event at Camp4Cancer, with this year’s event celebrating a decade of raising funds for cancer-related causes.
It will be officially 10 years since the registered charity started after founder and president Ben Roarty came to the idea in 2014, not too long after he lost his parents to cancer in 2011 and 2013.
In the enchanting Darraweit Guim, this year’s event is packed with entertainment and family-friendly activities such as Blu Sky Pony Rides, a reptile show, a skateboarding demonstration, and a kid’s activity tent.
The Camp4Cancer team reorganised its layout of the site this year, making camping and listening to live music more accommodating for those joining in with a tent, swag, camper trailer, or even caravan.
The camp also accommodates for people who are not the biggest camp-lovers, offering day passes for those who prefer to enjoy the activities without staying overnight.
Each year, many people participate in the event with volunteers on the floor in the camp kitchen to provide home cooked food to attendees, while the stage showcases talent with BGGROUPAU founder Benjamin Gregory supplying the music and artists.
This year’s event can expect even more from its entertainment, with some performers even having featured on live entertainment shows such as The Voice.
Mr Roarty said it was an honour to continue an event that meant so much to people.
“Such an honour and a privilege to be able to put this on after 10 years. A lot of little charities and fundraisers start and finish within one or two years, and we’re 10 years strong, and we’re getting stronger and stronger,” he said.
“One of the things that makes me the proudest I can ever be is when I’m walking around the city or at a forward drive exhibition, and I see someone who I don’t even know … walking past with some Camp4Cancer merchandise.
“That to me says people are out there spreading the word about the cause that we’re all involved [in], and that’s one of the proudest things that I can see.
“Along the way, I’ve met so many like-minded people who have been touched by this insidious disease, and everybody’s got a story—a positive or negative one—about cancer, [but] we all come together, and we’re 100 per cent a volunteer-run registered charity.”
The event has raised over half a million dollars for cancer-related causes.
Mr Roarty thanked all the sponsors and donations of prizes to the much-loved camp.
The event will be held at 38 Stennings Lane, Darraweit Guim, from 12pm Friday, November 15, to 12pm Sunday, November 17.
