Local farmers may be eligible for an exemption to the fire services levy.

The exemption, flagged by local not-for-profit group Protect Our Farms, falls under the Single Farm Enterprise Exemption, which allows owners of multiple parcels of farmland, used to operate a single farming enterprise, to pay just one fixed charge.

However, farmers must contact their local council to request a Single Farm Enterprise Exemption application form in order to apply.

With Mitchell Shire Council rates due by September 30, Protect Our Farms is urging eligible farmers to contact council as soon as possible.

Additionally, holders of pensioner concession cards and Department of Veterans’ Affairs Gold Cards (Totally and Permanently Incapacitated and War Widows) should receive a $50 concession on their principal place of residence for the levy.

For more information regarding the levy and concession, call Mitchell Shire Council on 5734 6200.
