The National Australian Built Environment Rating System (NABERS) has rated Northern Health’s energy usage at 5.1 out of 6 stars.
Now the most energy efficient health service in Victoria, Northern Health’s Chief Financial Officer Basil Ireland was proud to accept the rating.
“We thank the Victorian Health Building Authority for submitting the data for 2022-23 on behalf of the State, to enable the rating,” he said.
“We are hopeful that we will be purchasing 100 per cent renewable energy from the grid from January 1, 2025.”
Other public hospitals across the state have collectively attained a rating of 4.1 stars, categorising them as ‘high performance’, while Northern Health sits at ‘exceptional’.
Northern Health Director of Engineering and Building Services Alex Jovanovski was excited about future improvements.
“Mental Health sites have solar installations and Kilmore District Hospital has a new solar upgrade,” he said.
“We are monitoring and adjusting summer and winter cooling and heating temperatures via the Engineering Building Monitoring System across most of the Northern Health sites.
“Future data would reflect the impact of newly installed solar panels, potentially boosting their already impressive NABERS score.”
