A Whittlesea local has shared their experience with electricity costs, stating that they are yet to be convinced Australia requires nuclear power.

Residing in an all-electric home with solar panels and a battery, the local stated that their energy bill for the last financial year cost a mere $347 – more than a 700 per cent drop since their highest bill of $2541 in 2010.

Having tracked their energy costs since 2006, the resident noticed a particular spike in costs between the 2018 to 2021 period, before switching to solar panels and a new provider.

Noting that their findings were their personal experience only, the resident shared the following sentiment:

Tax-payers will have to pay over $2 billion to clean up the uranium mine up north after the company writes off the clean-up cost. The money allocated to building nuclear power plants could be used to improve the grid and help provide low-income families with solar and batteries,” they said.

“I am yet to be convinced this country needs nuclear power.”
