The King’s Birthday bye has given Kilmore Football Club an opportunity to review its senior team’s performance to date.
The seniors presently sit in seventh position on the ladder after scoring wins against Reservoir, Old Paradians, and Heidelberg West.
The other encounters have been a bit of a mixed bag with accuracy delivering a narrow loss against Lalor in round three, followed by a 69 point thumping by the Fitzroy Stars two weeks later.
In that game, Kilmore remained scoreless in the second quarter while Fitzroy was more than halfway to hitting triple digits. Although the Blues did not have a great start, the side still proved it was in the competition after showing improvement in the fourth quarter, adding 36 points to the scoreboard.
Round six saw the Blues put up a solid fight against Epping and despite losing 9.9 (63) to Epping’s 10.12 (72), the Blues showed solid performance for most of the game.
The round eight clash against Mernda will possibly go down as the match of the season to date. The round saw a determined Blues bounce back from a 28 point deficit in the first quarter to a close two point loss in the final term.
After the game Coach Paul Derrick was full of praise for his men.
“It was a great game of footy, we won three quarters, but the slow start hurt us,” Derrick said.
The final game of the round before the bye saw Kilmore face off against a determined Ivanhoe in what proved to a lively game of football.
Paul Derrick clearly has big plans for his side when the second half of the season kicks off next Saturday.
“We’ll reset over the break and prepare to come home really strongly, with consistency over the second half of [the] season,” Derrick said.
The season to date has been a positive one for the Kilmore Reserves. The side heads into the halfway mark of the season undefeated and on top of the ladder with an impressive 358 per cent.
The top of the Reserves table shows pure class with Kilmore joined by Old Eltham Collegians, Old Paradians, Mernda, and the Fitzroy Stars breathing down each other’s necks.
The Blues kick off the second half of the season in an away game against Old Eltham Collegians at the weekend.
