Wallan is back on the winners’ list in Gisborne District Cricket Association McIntyre Cup action, with a win over East Sunbury on Saturday.

On Saturday, the Magpies easily defended its total, bunding out East Sunbury for 144.

Wallan’s bowlers were led by Harvey Lehner who took 4/11, while captain Steve Bell claimed 2/25, and singles went the way of Todd Keenan, Chris Vecchie and Spencer Whittingham.

While for East Sunbury, Nathan Dent was the only shining light, making 41.

It was Wallan’s second win in an otherwise tough season, languishing at second bottom of the ladder.

With just one match remaining in the home and away season, the Magpies will miss McIntyre Cup finals this season.

It’s a different story for Romsey though, who scored a win over Sunbury United on Saturday.

Romsey, fourth on the ladder, knocked off Sunbury United, who sit second.

Playing at home, Romsey successfully defended its total of 180 from day one to take out a close win on day two.

Sunbury United came close but were all out for 175 on Saturday, thanks to a great day in the field for Romsey.

Eight of Romsey’s players had a bowl, with major wicket-takers Jamie Taylor with 3/40 and Taylor Stevenson 2/46.

For Sunbury United, Upul Fernando’s 54 was a highlight.

Other winners were Diggers Rest, Gisborne and Woodend.

In the last round of McIntyre Cup games, again two-day matches, Sunbury Kangaroos host Wallan; East Sunbury play Romsey, Bacchus Marsh take on Diggers Rest Bulla; Woodened travel to Rupertswood; and in a top-of-table clash Sunbury United are up against Gisborne.

In the Johnstone Shield competition, Kilmore, sitting in fourth spot on the ladder, went down to fifth-placed Macedon.

After posting 138 last weekend, Kilmore needed a big effort from their bowlers on Saturday.

But Macedon came with their game face on, cruising past Kilmore’s 138 having lost no wickets after 50 overs on day two.

Macedon went on to score 6/228, led by Gareth De Rosayro’s 92-run innings.

De Rosayro was supported by fellow opener Chris Ingleton’s 62.

For Kilmore, Ben Dawson claimed a bag of wickets, taking 5/35, off 23 overs, including seven maidens.

Kilmore host Kyneton in a two-day match – the last game before finals start.
