Theft of a dog

Police believe a 12-month-old purebred black and tan Kelpie was stolen from a property on Kilmore East Road, Kilmore on November 23.

The offenders are believed to have removed the collar from the family pet and left the collar on the property.

There was no CCTV available, and police urge anyone with information to come forward.

Police would also like to hear from anyone who has purchased or seen the puppy on social media or online marketplace websites.

Burglary

Unknown male offenders were seen in a white Volkswagen SUV attending a property on Hargrave Court, Wallan between 2.30pm and 3.12pm on Friday.

The offenders parked at the rear of the property and entered through a rear glass sliding door. The offenders are believed to have used a jemmy or a screwdriver to pry open the door.

The offenders then went into every room of the house and rummaged through all contents of draws, stealing jewellery including a wedding ring, diamond engagement ring, necklaces, broaches, earrings, and a watch.

They then entered the back shed before being interrupted by the owner of the property. The offenders fled in an unknown direction.

Police urge anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Criminal damage/attempted theft

At about 4.20am on Friday, an unknown offender attended Tarcombe Road, Seymour and attempted to steal power cables attached to a power pole.

The offender appears to have used a winch to break the protective case but after five attempts was unsuccessful.

The incident caused damage to the power pole straps and wire.

Theft of plates

Unknown offenders removed and stole the front and rear number plates affixed to a vehicle that was parked on Augusta Way, Wallan, on Friday.

The front number plate affixed to a vehicle parked on Stanley Street, Wallan, was also removed and stolen between 1pm and 4pm on Sunday.

Police advise people to ensure their plates are affixed securely by installing one-way anti-theft screws on their vehicles, which can prevent number plates from being stolen and used for further crimes.

Statistics

In the Mitchell Shire, there were 2319 incidents reported for the year ending June, 2022 – 22.5 per cent less than the 2020-2021 financial year.

Across the shire, criminal damage incidents were 246 offences, compared to 415 in the previous year.

Police also recorded the following crime statistics for each Mitchell Shire town:

Seymour: 2022: 624 criminal incidents; 2021: 848.

Wallan: 2022: 618 criminal incidents; 2021: 688.

Kilmore: 2022: 363 criminal incidents; 2021: 424.

Broadford: 2022: 176 criminal incidents; 2021: 344.

Beveridge: 2022: 165 criminal incidents; 2021: 165.
