Gardener and radio presenter on ABC and 3CR, Stephen Ryan and his partner Craig Lidgerwood will host a night of opera at their Macedon property to help aspiring opera singers on March 11, 2019.
This annual event, Getrude Opera at Tugurium, will showcase a night of opera under a canopy of trees and rare native plants in the couples garden.
“We’ve been doing Gertrude Opera now for three or four years and we started because my partner’s baby sister trained to be an opera singer,” Mr Ryan said.
“Gertrude Opera help young opera singers polish themselves before they go out into the big, wild world.
“We do this every year to give them a chance to do some public performing and also to raise money that goes to help them.”
Mr Ryan also enjoys the social benefits the event offers to the community.“A lot of people who come are local – it’s become a social calendar event,”
Mr Ryan said.“They have a great time, have a few drinks and listen to some beautiful music. People can also go for a wander around our garden.
“It’s just that whole community thing that we find appealing and we know that we’re helping some people out who need it.”
Mr Lidgerwood is also hosting an open studio and exhibition at their Macedon property to showcase his selected original artwork on Sunday.
