IT was a busy week last week at Assumption College as exams kicked off and the school held its annual cricket match with Victoria Police Cricket Club.
The game has taken place every year since 1952 following the death of Constable George Howell.
Throughout the later half of the 1900’s, the match stopped for an unknown reason but soon continued in the 90’s and has been played every year since.
The weather put on an absolute show last week though, meaning it was a great day for cricket for both runs and wickets.
The Victoria Police side kicked the game off with the bat and the openers saw a great partnership to start the team off.
Sikander Sharma was 48 not out from the opening position and was the second highest scorer for the Victoria Police side behind Tariq Siddiqui who had 51 not out.
Assumption bowled reasonably well, with wickets spread across the first XI including a lot of wickets in the middle order.
Victoria Police set 193 runs against the talented outfit, which looked worrying after Samraat and Flynn opened the batting strong for ACK as well as Blake and Zach who also performed well at three and four.
The total was chased down within 33 overs, leaving Assumption with the victory.
But in retrospect, the results weren’t bigger then the day itself which carries a long tradition for both sides on the day.
