THE $2.7 million upgrade of Darraweit Road in Wallan is now complete.

Federal Member for McEwen Rob Mitchell has welcomed the completion of upgrades that will deliver safer and more efficient travel experiences for residents and commuters.

These upgrade works have significantly improved road conditions, addressing long-standing safety concerns and enhanced pedestrian connectivity for the community.

“This is a great outcome for our community. These improvements are making a real difference to everyday drivers and making the road safer for everyone who relies on it,” Mr Mitchell said.

The upgrade saw the reconstruction of existing sealed road pavement, footpath upgrades, kerb and channel reconstruction, formalised on-street parking spaces, crossovers and underground drainage between Acacia Way and Roulston Way.

During the 2022 federal election campaign, the Federal Government pledged $11 million to fund local road upgrades in the Mitchell and Macedon Ranges Shire Councils.

The $5.5 million provided to Mitchell Shire Council funded this upgrade as well as an upgrade to Wellington Street, between Duke and Watson Streets. Mitchell Shire Council contributed an additional $300,000 to the project.

Mitchell Shire Council Mayor John Dougall said the completed project highlights the importance of partnership funding to deliver critical road upgrades in growing communities like Wallan.

“Darraweit Road is an important local connection and these works have significantly improved safety and driving conditions for everyone who uses it,” he said.

“We thank the Australian Government and Member for McEwen Rob Mitchell for their support in delivering this project.

“Continued investment from all levels of government is essential to maintain and upgrade our road network as our communities grow and demand increases.

“As Wallan continues to grow, projects like this help ensure our road network keeps pace with increasing demand and supports the daily needs of residents.”
